For over 150 years people have come to Coon Rapids, Iowa.
Today, you are invited to come too. The town’s website says, “Through our heart flows a river whose waters powered our first mill, fueled our family farms, and inspired our very name.” Today the town is home to about 1,300 people, and for the day visitor, there are plenty of places to take a selfie, have a meal, visit the 5,500 acre Whiterock Conservancy Nature Preserve, or simply enjoy the local trails. Here’s a Youtube video about the town
Coon Rapids became one of our Trail Towns in June 2025, the third town to achieve this designation. The website will be updated with photos and links from the celebration.
Coon Rapids is about 70 miles from Des Moines and 100 miles from Omaha.
